About part number 7343614

A rear bumper cover forms the outer protective and aerodynamic shell at the back of the vehicle. It covers the underlying impact beam, mounts the rear lights or reflectors, and protects the bodywork from minor impacts. When it is fitted correctly and intact, it provides a clean visual finish to the back of the car and keeps the rear components protected from road debris, water, and weather.

To ensure this component is correct for your vehicle, check the manufacturer part number stamped directly onto the plastic moulding. On parts of this type, the part number is usually moulded into the inside surface of the bumper shell or along the inner mounting flanges. You must match the main part number 7343614 or the secondary number HH23102411 to your original unit, as matching the exact number is what determines whether it will fit your car.

A rear bumper is usually replaced after sustaining impact damage in a collision, or because of severe cracks, broken mounting tabs, or heavy scuffs. When replacing this part, you often need the original clips, screws, or mounting brackets, and a qualified body shop may be required to prepare and paint the surface to match the colour of your vehicle.

• Part type: Bumpers & Reinforcements.
• Specification: colour NEED RESPRAY; features Durable, Easy Installation, No Drilling Required.

About this kind of part: bumper covers

A bumper cover is the painted plastic skin across the front or the rear of a car. It is not a structural part. Behind it sit a foam or honeycomb absorber and a steel or aluminium reinforcement bar, and those are what take an impact. The cover carries the grille apertures, the number plate plinth and the openings for parking sensors, washer jets and tow eyes, so one model can take several different covers depending on how it was specified when new.

Why people replace one

• A knock in a car park or a light collision has cracked or torn the plastic. A tear can be plastic-welded, but it rarely returns to a finish that will take paint without showing.
• The paint has faded or crazed differently from the panels around it. A bumper flexes and sits low in the spray from the road, so it ages faster than a wing.
• The mounting tabs along the top edge or inside the wheel arches have snapped, so the cover stands proud of the panel next to it.
• An earlier repair has been filled and has begun to lift.

Fitting it

• It is held by screws along the top edge, screws or clips inside each wheel arch, and plastic nuts underneath the car.
• Lamps, grilles, sensors, washer jets and the number plate plinth usually move across from the old cover.
• A cover is supplied either in primer or in the colour it was sprayed when new. A matching finish needs the paint code from the car's own identification plate.
• Parking sensors go back into their own openings, and the trim rings around them are often specific to the colour.

Making sure it is the right one

• Match the part number moulded into the old cover rather than matching the shape. A facelift changes the number while the outline can look almost the same.
• Check whether the car has parking sensors. A cover with no sensor openings cannot be used on a car that has them, and drilling one is not a repair.
• Count the openings and compare them: fog lamp apertures, the tow eye cover and any camera or washer cut-out differ between trim levels on the same model.
