About part number 2GM809909An outer fuel cap, also known as a fuel flap or filler flap, is the hinged bodywork panel that covers the fuel tank inlet. Part of the vehicle's body and fuel filling system, it sits flush with the rear wing to protect the inner cap and filler neck from dirt, water and road debris. When working correctly, it opens smoothly when released and latches securely to keep the body line neat and aerodynamic. To confirm that this part is correct for your vehicle, you must check the part number. The manufacturer part number for this item is 2GM809909. On a fuel flap, this number is usually stamped or molded onto the plastic inner casing or near the hinge mechanism on the reverse side of the panel. You should match this exact number rather than relying on vehicle models or production years. A fuel flap is commonly replaced following accidental damage, broken mounting hinges, or a snapped release spring. When fitting a replacement flap, you may also require the mounting housing, the release cable or actuator, and fresh paint, as these body panels are often supplied in primer format to be sprayed to match the vehicle's paint colour. |
