About part number 982953568000

A front bumper grille reinforcement panel is a structural support component within the bodywork system at the front of a vehicle. It fits behind the outer front grille and bumper cover, providing a rigid backing that holds the trim in place and maintains correct panel alignment. When this part is functioning correctly, the front bumper and lower grilles remain firmly mounted, preventing vibration and keeping the vehicle exterior tidy.

To confirm that this part is correct for your vehicle, you must match the manufacturer part number directly. Check the number stamped onto your original panel against part number 982953568000. Matching this exact reference number is the only way to guarantee correct fitment, as physical dimensions and mounting points vary across different vehicle specifications.

These panels are usually replaced after a minor front-end impact, as the plastic or composite material can crack or deform. When fitting a replacement panel, you may also need new plastic retaining clips, rivets, or threaded fasteners to secure it correctly to the surrounding bumper assembly.

  • Part type: Grilles.
  • Position on the vehicle: Front.

About this kind of part: bumper reinforcement bars

A reinforcement bar is the steel or aluminium beam behind the painted bumper cover, bolted to the chassis legs through a pair of crush cans. It is the part that actually does the work in an impact: the cover is cosmetic, the foam absorber takes the low-speed knock, and the bar and its crush cans are engineered to deform in a controlled way and protect the chassis behind them. That is also why a deformed bar must be replaced rather than straightened.

Why people replace one

  • An impact has bent the bar or collapsed a crush can, which is exactly what they are designed to do and means both need replacing.
  • The bar is sound but the chassis legs behind it need a new mounting face, and the bar comes off anyway.
  • Corrosion has taken hold where a steel bar meets its mounting plates, which is common on an older car that has stood.
  • A towing eye thread in the bar has stripped.
  • A repairer has straightened a bent bar and the owner wants a replacement rather than a repaired one.

Fitting it

  • The bumper cover and usually the absorber come off first, then the bar unbolts from the crush cans or from the chassis legs directly.
  • Inspect the crush cans whenever the bar has taken a knock. A collapsed can is the point of the design, and reusing one leaves the car with no protection.
  • The bolts are usually specified to a torque figure and are often single-use. Check before reusing them.
  • An aluminium bar must not be heated or straightened, and it takes its own fasteners. Steel practice does not carry across.

Making sure it is the right one

  • Match the part number. Within one model the bar changes with the body style and often across a facelift, and the two are not interchangeable even where the shape looks similar.
  • Check the material. A steel bar and an aluminium bar exist for the same position on some cars, and they take different fasteners and different repair methods.
  • Compare the mounting plate positions and the bolt spacing with your own bar. This is what decides whether it lines up with the chassis legs.
  • Check whether the crush cans are included and whether they are straight. They are sometimes separate parts and are frequently the reason the bar is being replaced.

What to look for in the photographs

A Part number — Stamped into the bar or on a label on one face.
B Crush cans — The boxed sections at each end that bolt to the chassis legs. Check whether they are included and whether either has begun to concertina.
C Mounting plates — The flanges and bolt holes at each end. Compare the spacing with your own bar, because this is what has to line up.
D Bar profile — Look along the bar from one end rather than at its face. A gentle bend is invisible straight on and obvious down the length.
E Towing eye thread — The threaded socket, where the bar carries one. Check the thread is clean and square.
F Material and corrosion — Steel or aluminium, and the state of the metal where the plates are welded or bolted on.

This section describes bumper reinforcement bars parts in general. The numbers and the photographs above are this part.
