About part number 3221979A bonnet hinge is a mechanical pivot component that attaches the vehicle bonnet to the main body structure. Positioned at the front, on the left-hand side of the vehicle, it supports the weight of the bonnet and allows it to open and close smoothly. When functioning correctly, the hinge maintains proper panel alignment with the front wings and ensures the bonnet latches securely into position. To confirm this component is correct for your vehicle, you must check that your existing part matches the part number 3221979. Original manufacturer numbers are typically stamped or cast directly into the metal body of the hinge assembly. Matching this exact number is the only way to guarantee correct fitment and alignment. Bonnet hinges are usually replaced after a front-end collision, or when the pivot joint wears out, seizes, or bends, which prevents the bonnet from closing properly. When fitting a replacement hinge, you often need replacement securing bolts, and you may need panel alignment tools or fresh paint to touch up the mounting points.
