About part number M8A2-17683-DAB

A door mirror assembly provides the driver with a clear view along the side and to the rear of the vehicle. Situated on the exterior of the door, this unit connects to the vehicle's electrical system to power the mirror glass movement and the integrated camera, which sends live video feeds to the dashboard display screen. When working correctly, it allows the driver to monitor surrounding traffic and park safely.

To confirm this is the correct part for your vehicle, you must match the engineering reference numbers directly. Look for the primary manufacturer number M8A2-17683-DAB stamped or printed on the mirror housing, mounting base, or internal plastic casing. You may also see related markings such as M8A2-17683, 2163.6651, or 2163.5001. Matching these exact numbers is the only way to ensure correct fitment and function.

Door mirrors are commonly replaced after sustaining impact damage, or when internal motors, heating elements, or camera electronics fail. When installing a replacement unit on the left-hand side, a technician typically requires basic trim removal tools to access the inner door panel, along with replacement plastic door clips if the original fasteners break during disassembly.

  • Part type: Mirror Assemblies.
  • Position on the vehicle: Left.
  • Also numbered: M8A2-17683, 2163.6651, 2163.5001.

About this kind of part: door mirrors

A door mirror is an assembly rather than a single part: a painted cover, a base that bolts to the door, the glass on a motorised carrier, and depending on how the car was specified a heater element, a folding motor, an indicator, a puddle lamp, a blind-spot sensor and a camera. The number of wires in the connector is the quickest guide to how much is inside one, and it is the main reason two mirrors that look identical are not interchangeable.

Why people replace one

  • The mirror has been struck in a narrow gap or a car park and the cover, the glass or the base is broken.
  • The folding mechanism has stripped, so the mirror no longer powers in or sits at the correct angle once folded.
  • The glass adjustment has failed, usually a stripped drive in the carrier behind the glass.
  • The indicator or the puddle lamp has stopped working and is sealed into the assembly.
  • The painted cover has been scuffed along its outer face, which is the first thing to touch a wall or a post.

Fitting it

  • Most mirrors come off from inside the door, behind the trim panel or a small triangular cover, held by three bolts.
  • The connector is released inside the door rather than by pulling the loom through the door skin.
  • A mirror with folding, heating, a camera or a blind-spot sensor may need coding to the car so that it operates and reports correctly.
  • The cover and the glass are usually available separately, so a scuffed cover does not always mean replacing the whole assembly.

Making sure it is the right one

  • Count the pins in the connector and compare them with your own mirror. This is the single most useful check, because every extra feature adds wires.
  • Match the part number. Mirrors are handed, and within one model there are usually several versions by specification.
  • Check which features yours has before buying: folding, heating, an indicator, a puddle lamp, a blind-spot indicator in the glass, or a camera in the underside.
  • A painted cover is matched by paint code from the car's own identification plate, and a used cover has aged with the car it came off.

What to look for in the photographs

A Part number — On a label on the base or moulded into the housing behind the cover.
B Connector — Count the pins. A mirror with folding, heating, a lamp, a sensor and a camera has many more wires than a plain one, and the plug will not match.
C Glass and carrier — Whether the glass is present, whether it carries a blind-spot indicator, and whether the carrier behind it is intact.
D Camera aperture — An opening in the underside of the housing, where the car has a surround-view camera. Its presence or absence is part of the match.
E Base and mounting face — The three bolt holes and the sealing face against the door. Check for cracks radiating from a bolt hole.
F Cover outer face — Look along the outer edge of the cover rather than straight at it, which is where scuffing from a wall collects.
