About part number MY42-40406-AE

A tailgate trim plate light forms part of the vehicle's rear exterior lighting and trim assembly. Mounted on the rear tailgate, this unit houses illumination components that light up the rear area or number plate, while providing a finished look to the tailgate panel. When operating correctly, it provides clear, even lighting that helps keep the vehicle visible to other road users at night and ensures the rear registration mark is clearly readable.

To ensure this part is correct for your vehicle, you must check that the part number matches your existing unit. Look for the main part number MY42-40406-AE stamped or printed directly onto the plastic housing or connector body on the reverse side of the trim. You may also find the secondary number HK72-13444-AA on the casing. Matching these exact numbers is the only way to confirm correct fitment.

These units are usually replaced due to impact damage, cracked plastic lenses, or water ingress that causes the internal circuit or bulbs to fail. When fitting a replacement trim light, installers often need replacement fixing clips, fresh weather seals, or new wiring connector plugs if corrosion has damaged the original electrical contacts.
